Returning, No Return

"Returning, No Return", 2021, found objects, acrylic & mulberry on canvas, 210" x 10"
”Indeterminacy, the unplanned nature of time, is frightening, but thinking through precarity makes it evident that indeterminacy also makes life possible.”
— Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing, The Mushroom at the End of the World

Objects collected in the one block walk from the artists apartment to studio capture a fragmentary image, reminiscent of an archaeological dig, perhaps giving insight to what may remain beyond the present epoch.

Square canvases, painted with a mulberry-dyed ombre, allude to the sidewalk from which the objects have been selected, and provide a context for the surprising and often playful groupings of objects within the piece. There is, perhaps, a hopefulness amidst Tsing's "precarity" and the "possible.'
